Rejecting the Convenient Lie

Writer's picture: Renee EymaRenee Eyma

What’s a lie you tell yourself that’s impeding your growth as a leader?

Recently, I was challenged to recognize a lie I was telling myself for what it was - a lie. It was a convenient lie because it meant I didn’t have to face a hard truth about myself and present situation. But it was a lie nonetheless. And holding onto it would have prevented me from living out my values of honesty and self awareness.

What’s a convenient lie you need to reject? How is that lie serving you? Holding onto certain lies means we don’t have to do the hard work of confronting our fears, taking risks, having uncomfortable conversations, and valuing ourselves. But we both know that also means we’re not growing.

Maybe the convenient lie is a limiting belief about your future possibilities. Maybe you have incorrectly assigned power over your life and decisions to others. Or maybe you’re not acknowledging unhealthy dynamics in personal and/or professional relationships. Whatever it is, I encourage you to be kind to yourself as you honestly reflect on and reject the convenient lie.

Wishing you much wisdom, courage, and strength in the journey!
