Not too long ago, I had an accident. Thank God, I am fine. I had the option of staying in place to receive proper care and attention. Instead, I got up and rushed ahead as I felt fine enough to pick up my son in a timely manner. Later on, some complications arose because I unwisely refused to remain still. In this situation, I honored my value of picking up my son (who was fine with loving grandparents) at a promised time. And I decided not to honor my value of being whole and well. They were both worthy values to honor but in that instance, which was the better one to prioritize?
How many of us rush through life because we feel an overwhelming sense of responsibility to the families, work places, and communities we are part of? What would happen if we took more opportunities to pause?
I believe that when we take more opportunities to pause, we can:
Be more conscious in deciding to honor some of our values over others
Assess whether we are truly honoring our values in the work we do and the lives we live
Reflect on our purpose and its connection to our life and work
Revitalize dreams and aspirations that we have placed on the back burner
Approach challenges we have been facing for months and even years with a fresh perspective
Gain inspiration for our most important undertakings
When was the last time you took the opportunity to really pause? If you were to lean into your inner wisdom and intuition, which areas of your life and leadership would benefit from greater stillness and opportunities for reflection? And what intentions will you set for yourself as we enter the busyness of fall?
Rooting for you as you seek that stillness for yourself.
